Xavier Murillo

Xavier was an accomplished mountaineer and photographer. Over the past 2 decades, his inspiring images have graced the pages of our magazines. Yet he is probably even more well-known as "Mr PWC"-- the driving force behind the foundation of the Paragliding World Cup (PWC) competition circuit. He worked tirelessly in the interests of fellow pilots to make competitions safer, fairer and more enjoyable.

Aside from these considerable achievements, Xavier will simply be remembered for his human qualities by all who met him. Xavier had a nice word for everyone, it didn't matter whether you were 1st or 100th, man or woman. He inspired, motivated and entertained a generation of pilots with his warmth, infectious sense of humour and love of life. In the words of Christian Quest, who worked for over 10 years alongside Xavier in the PWC, he was, "a human being really human". We will all miss him.

On Sunday 17th July at St Hilare in France, there is a public ceremony to say a final farewell. True to Xavier's spirit, attendees are invited to wear a "Xavier-style" humourous t-shirt. Full details are available at www.paraglidingworldcup.org

Gin Gliders would like to extend our sincere condolences to Xavier's family.
